Community Comes Together to Support Swim Scholarships in Molalla
At Pacific Mobile Structures, community involvement goes beyond the workplace. It is about supporting the people and programs that make a positive impact where we live and work. Recently, a local fundraising event at the Molalla Aquatic Center helped provide swim scholarship opportunities for children in the community.
Connie McMillen, wife of Russ McMillen, Regional Operations Manager for Pacific Mobile Structures, volunteers at the Molalla Aquatic Center and noticed during school-sponsored swim lessons that many young swimmers could benefit from additional instruction beyond the limited time provided through the school program. While the pool offers swim lesson classes for $60 per child, some families may need financial assistance to continue lessons.
To help support those families, the event partnered with Friends of Molalla Pool (FOMP), a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to supporting pool-related needs in the community. FOMP helps raise funds for swim scholarships, goggles, life jackets, and other important resources that make water safety and swim education more accessible for local families.
The event became a true community effort, with local businesses and volunteers stepping up to support the cause in meaningful ways.
Molalla Ace Hardware donated plants and staff time to help sell them during the event, with all proceeds benefiting the swim scholarship fund.
Vaquero Express brought a food truck to the event and generously donated half of the proceeds raised throughout the day.
Silver Creek Fellowship provided kites and balloons for children attending the event, helping create a fun and welcoming atmosphere for families.
In addition to the business support, many community members donated their time helping set up tents, tables, chairs, and coordinating activities throughout the day.
The result was more than just a fundraiser. It was a community coming together to support water safety, swim education, and opportunities for local children to build confidence in and around the water.
Events like this highlight the impact people can make when businesses, volunteers, and organizations work together toward a common goal. Through the support of local businesses, volunteers, and Friends of Molalla Pool, more children will have access to swim lessons and resources that can make a lasting difference.
